i dunno how true is this mann..
but its the ans to the science practical last week
1a) solid T melts with heat gently, mineral wool burns
and a brown gas evolved.(nitrogen dioxide) (3 marks)
growin splint- a gas evolved relights the growing splint.
(oxygen is found in the center)(1 mark)
1b1) white ppt, soluble in excess aqueous ammonia
giving a colourless solution,(by this time, either zinc
or calcium is the metal) (2 marks)
1b2) white ppt, soulble in excess aqueous sodium
hydroxide giving a colourless solution.(by this time,
confirm the metal is zinc)(2 marks)
1b3) white ppt form when sodium carbonate is added
with solution T. effervescence, a gas evolved turns
lime water white ppt. (2marks)
conclusion- carbon dioxide produced (1mark)
(this experiment has nothing much to do with finding
out the non metal in solution T)
1b4) By adding aqueous sodium hydroxide, then
aluminium foil into solution T and then warm gently, a
gas evolved. (2 marks)
conclusion- ammonia gas produced (1mark)
this is a test of nitrate, thus nitrate is present.
finally, solution T is made up of ZINC NITRATE!!!
(1 mark)
cant wait for mine to be over!!!
